B-26 Marauder after collision

One elevator, a prayer and a lot of good flying brought this AAF B-26 Marauder home following a midair collision 9 Feb. 1st Lt. Roscoe Nemer, 637 Reis Ave., Evansville, Ind., 19 year old veteran bomber pilot, landed the heavy Marauder after the wing and propeller of another plane had sliced away half his tail section. This rear view of the crippled bomber shows that the left elevator is completely destroyed. Nemer was forced to land at 175 MPH to compensate for the loss. This was Nemer's second close shave within two weeks. He was forced down by fighters and flak to a belly landing 28 Jan. Nemer flies with the "Big-tail Birds", oldest medium bomb group in the Mediterranean theater.
