B-25s bombing Balikpapan

Gasoline tanks at Balikpapan, Borneo, Netherlands East Indies go up in smoke after a low-level bombing and strafing attack by 13th AAF medium bombers. In two minutes over the target, the "Jungle Air Force" B-25s dropped 15 tons of bombs, fired 70,000 rounds of machine gun ammunition and started 17 large fires. Three of the fires sent smoke rolling 10,000 feet high. Flak was so intense the B-25s hedge-hopped through the refinery area only 200 feet from the ground, in order to dodge the Jap gunners.
