B-25 Mitchells over New Britain

North American B-25 Mitchell bombers of the 13th AAF are pictured here winging their way over the Rataval supply area, New Britain, after having dropped their bombs on this target for the day. A large fire can be seen on the shore of Talili Bay, which was preceded by a great explosion. A series of smaller blasts occured during the blaze indicating that it was probably located in an ammunition dump. In the background lies Simpson Harbor and Rabaul town. 3A-31684 JAN 30 1945
