B-25 Mitchells over Italian Alps

Heavy German anti-aircraft fire against North American B-25 Mitchells of the 12th AF reaches up and beyond the peaks of the Italian Alps over which the medium bombers are flying in attacks in the "Battle of Brenner Pass". The flak-dotted sky picture was made on February 17, 1945 during a B-25 flight over Lavis railroad division, ten miles north of Verano. A fortnight ago, the Mitchells had destroyed the structure but the Germans rushed repairs in an effort to reopen the vital lines.
