North American B-25 Mitchells of the First Tactical Air Force bombed the highway bridge near Pastena, Italy, choking off enemy reinforcements and supplies in the Allied offensive in Italy. Buildings from the evacuated town were literally picked up and dumped onto the roadway, making it impassable to the Germans. 21 May 1944.
