B-25 Mitchells bombing Split harbor
An outstanding job of precision bombing of a difficult target is shown in this picture of the harbor of Split, Yugoslavia, one of the most important German-held Adriatic Ports. The bombing was done 3 Jan by the 12th Army Air Force B-25 Mitchells, which completely covered the railroad yards and most of the docks and shipping in the harbor with little damage to the city itself. The picture shows the bomb pattern beginning at the water's edge at the lower left and continuing through the Railroad yards and covering most of the dock area. Shipping moored at the piers is obscured by smoke from exploding bombs.
