B-25 Mitchells attack Passignano tunnel Italy
1944-05-16
An excellent concentration of bombs cover the entrance to the Passignano Tunnel, in Italy, attacked by North American B-25 Mitchells of the First Tactical Air Force on May 16, 1944. Bombs falling on both ends of the rail tunnel, on the north shore of Lake Tresimano, 75 miles north of Rome, caused a spectacular landslide that effectively closed the Arezzo-Parugia section of the main Rome-Florence line.
