B-25 Mitchells and P-47 Thunderbolts over Montebello

Both nature and man's work are affected by bombs from North American B-25 Mitchells and Republic P-47 Thunderbolts of the U.S. 12th A.F. on this railroad bridge at Montebello, between Verona and Vicenza, Italy. The bombs broke the banks of the river and waters flood the area. The bridge itself is cracked and the roadbeds and tracks have been torn up by the attacks. This was a vital link in Nazi communications to the enemy troops opposing Allied armies in Italy.
