B-25 Mitchell crew at home base

When this North American B-25 Mitchell crew landed at its home base after an attack on the Brenner Pass Line, members were greeted by this original sign made with doughnuts commemorating their flight as the 15,000th sortie flown by the 310th Bomb Group of the 12th Air Force. The sign was prepared by Miss Doris Hill of Albany, Texas, a Red Cross worker who is assigned to the Air Force and is shown here greeting the crew in typical Red Cross fashion. Among those in the crew were: (left to right) standing, S/Sgt. John Greenfield, Fort Smith, Ark.; 2nd Lt. Hoyt N. Payne, Jr., Knoxville, Tenn.; S/Sgt. George Prout, Allenhurst, N.J.; T/Sgt. Robert R. Harrel, Kenneth, Mo. The lucky officer being fed by Miss Hill is 1st Lt. John M. Ford, Houston, Texas, the pilot.
