B-25 Bombers Over Northern Kuriles
1945-05-11
Fast Frigate type escort which "guarded" largest Japanese convoy attacked in the Northern Kuriles since 1943, is caught dead in the water by 11th AF B-25 bombers and strafed from mast-top level, during the strike 11 May 1945 which sank or damaged six enemy cargo and escort ships in Paramushiru Straits. Notice the starboard anti-aircraft gun crew firing at the plane which made the photograph going away, while the main battery forward and the anti-aircraft dual mount just abaft it are already trained on another approaching Mitchell. Heavy fire from ships and shore emplacements shot down one B-25.
