the formation breaks away from the target, the smoke still hovers over the battered runway, (extreme left, bottom of the picture). Under the Liberator B-24 in the background looms the hill that landmarks the town of Rabaul. Fighters and medium bombers of the 13th Air Force will continue to pound these installa-tions but the heavies are headed for bigger game in the near future. They have put the finishing touch to their job and now they are heading where the need for a Sunday punch is greater.
