B-24 Liberators in the Ruhr
Consolidated B-24 Liberators of the U.S. 8th AF being loaded with weapons, food and medicines for the parachute troops dropped by 1500 transports and gliders in advance of the Rhine crossing ground troops in the Ruhr. 240 B-24 Liberators of the Second Air Division commanded by Maj. Gen. William E. Kepner flew in at 100 ft., to drop supplies to the parachute troops fighting east of the Rhine. Maj. Gen. Kepner flew out in a fighter plane to observe his heavy bomber formation as it left to drop supplies.
