B-24 Liberators attack Dutch Celebes

Army Air Forces B-24 Liberators attacked Japanese installations in the Dutch Celebes. Direct hits were scored on two Jap cruisers and one cargo vessel, and oil fires started which were visible for more than 70 miles. This spectacular photograph was snapped just as a direct hit was made on one of the four Japanese cruisers alongside the Juliana Quay at Makassar. Note fuel dump on fire and the white splash at the stern of cruiser caused by the impact of bomb landing amidships.
