B-24 Liberator over Vienna
This Consolidated B-24 Liberator of the U.S. Army 15th AF was mortally struck by a German ME-109 during a mission over the synthetic oil refineries at Vienna, Austria. Flames are seen bursting out behind the wings and sweeping back toward the tail. The Liberator broke in two parts for its final plunge. The entire crew was seen to bail out safely.
