B-24 Liberator over Messina

A B-24 Liberator of the Ninth U.S. Army Air Force, poised above Messina, Sicilian Terminus of the important Reggio-Messina ferry line, observes the effect of bomb bursts among naval barracks and oil tanks in the strategic Axis port. The liberators on this mission against the much battered city were intercepted by Axis fighters, but shot down eight, damaged three others, and returned to base without loss.
