B-24 Liberator over Frankfurt

Burning Liberator Disintergrates in Air: A victim of a direct hit by flak, these two photos graphically portray the final plunge of a B-24 Liberator of the U.S. 8th AF during the March 20th attack on Frankfurt. One of the six bombers which failed to return, the Lib is shown partly broken up in the first picture but in the other photo all that remains of the striken ship are burning pieces of fuselage,wings and tail section.
