B-24 Liberator after Weiner Nuestadt attack
1944-05-31
Enemy fighters on a Weiner Nuestadt attack placed a lucky rocket shot through the rudder of "Old Number 34", a Consolidated B-24 Liberator of the 15th AAF. It was a lucky crew that brought the plane home. Pictured left to right is pilot, Lt. Irving J. Weilert, 1150 Bay Road, Webster, N. Y., who brought the Liberator home; and Sgt. Don Grassman, 1316 West 127th Ave., Melrose Park, Ill., the ball turret gunner who nailed the rocket plane in his sight and destroyed it. - ITALY 31 May 1944 - 450th Bomb Group.
