B-24 Liberator after Hamm attack
1st Lt. Elbert F. Lozes of New Orleans, La., bombardier, scrutinizes the bomb salvo handles whith he found in the melted wreckage of his ship, the Consolidated B-24 Liberator, "Vadie Raye". After a successful attack on Hamm, Germany, 22 April 44, the Lib was damaged by enemy fighter attacks and landed at its home base with the forward half completely ablaze. Lt. Lozes escaped through a hatch shortly before the ship exploded.
