B-17s strike Mostar Airdrome

Flying Fortresses (Boeing B-17s) of the 15th AAF range from Italian bases to strike at German air power in the Balkans. This picture is of Mostar Airdrome in Yugoslavia near the Adriatic coast, after Fortresses had sown high explosives and fragmentation bombs in the raid of 14 Jan. Dense smoke from the heavy demolition bombs obscures most of the enemy field. (
