These 8th Air Force Boeing B-17s of the 96th Bomb Group on Poltava Airfield, Ukraine, Russia, having just completed their first shuttle-bombing mission from England, were destroyed on the ground in a perfectly timed and well executed attack by the German Air Force on the night of 21 June 1944.
