B-17G wing hit over Berlin

Wing of a Boeing B-17G, the trailing edge, is shown ripped by a direct large caliber antiaircraft hit over Berlin on 6 March 44. Although 24 inches of the left aileron, including the trim tab, was destroyed, the Tokio tanks and control cables were undamaged. The pilot, Lt. John R. Walsh, found the plane left-wing heavy but soon got it under control and brought it home. JUN 20 1944
