B-17's Bomb Le Bourget Airfield

The field is completely useless after the attack, as is indicated by this reconnaissance plane photograph made after the Boeing B-17's had successfully completed their mission. Note the broad "road" of bomb craters marching across the field--an earthly reflection of the line of Flying Fortresses which recently passed overhead. (Photo No. 3 of 3.) (MAIN CAPTION): These 3 photos show what happened to LeBourget Airfield outside Paris, when it was recently bombed by American Boeing B-17's in force. Strong enemy fighter resistance was encountered, but Thunderbolts supporting the operation destroyed 17 of the enemy fighters, and the Flying Fortresses accounted for 12 more. In addition there were 2 probables and 11 damaged enemy planes. We lost 4 Boeing B-17's, but the crew of one was rescued by a high speed launch. (3 Photos)
