B-17's B-26's A-20's bombing Pont D'Hoe

At Pont D'Hoe, Boeing B-17's, Martin B-26's and Douglas A-20's dropped more than 1,500 five-hundred pound bombs, all within an area of about one-quarter of a mile square. The coastal sand was pock-marked with bomb craters, merging and melting into each other. Broken concrete was flung about in huge chunks. American Rangers scaled 75 foot cliffs behind the bombardment to take the point at the dawning of D-Day. The wreckage of camouflage and smashed concrete is all that remained of this emplacement, still under construction when D-Day arrived.
