B-17 over St Omer

Almost tailless, this Boeing B-17 of the 8th Bomber Command & its crew got home safely from a raid on St. Omer, France, last October. When engine failure forced the ship suddenly to fall out of formation, it was rammed by the Boeing B-17 immediately behind. Result: The vertical stabilizer was almost completely cut off, the horizontal stabilizers partially wreck-ed & the rear gunner's hatch & part of the fuselage damaged by one of the propellers of the second ship.
