After the blaze has been extinguished in the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress "Lucky Patch" (A/C No. 46507), men of the 527th Bomb Squadron, 379th Bomb Group, examine the plane to determine the extent of the damage; the plane crashed at an 8th Air Force base in England as it came in for a landing after a mission on 3 May 1945.
