BERLIN, GERMANY - A LONE B-17 FORTRESS OF THE 452ND BOMB GROUP WINGS ITS WAY TO ATTACK BERLIN, and to get into the greatest air battle ever fought in the war against Germany. As it floats majestically along over fleecy cloud formations, it is not alone, there are more - many more - above, behind and in front of it, escorting fighters are in the offing. Escorting fighters knocked down 83 Luftwaffe planes in this greatest aerial battle on 6 March 1944. (Taken by S/Sgt. E. A. Pearson).
