B-17 Flying Fortresses over Vienna Schwechat oil refineries
1945-02-07
Heading for its target, the Vienna Schwechat oil refineries in Austria, are bombs from one of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses of the 15th AF that attacked this one of the few remaining sources of oil left to the Hun in Europe, on 7 Feb. 1945. Lack of oil is one of the factors that are helping the Russians to smash the Hun on the eastern front, helping allied troops on the western front and in Italy to tighten the iron ring of defeat around Germany. 383d Bomb Group
