B-17 Flying Fortresses over Reggio Emilia
At the beginning of the 5-minute attack by the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses, which were on their first mission to Reggio Emilia, Italy, 40 miles northwest of Bologna. This giant bomb from a Fortress is on its way in the rain of pinpoint destruction on the aircraft Factory & adjoining buildings from which smoke & haze are billowing. (AAF Photo). The aircraft factory, which produced Reggiane Fighter Planes for the Germans, is considered the most important power plant, which exploded, a locomotive factory & rail yards, and hangars & runway of an airfield lying near the aircraft plant were in the target Area.
