FLAK FILLED SKIES - The white cloud is all that remains of a Flying Fortress which was hit by flak, en route to the target. As U.S. Army 8th Air Force B-17 Flying Fortresses invade Germany to attack oil targets at Merseburg, hundreds of German anti-aircraft guns fill the skies with flak. Contrails streaming behind, a Fortress formation is seen surrounded by smudgy flak bursts, just below the horizon line.
