B-17 Flying Fortresses in England

FOUR LESSONS IN PRECISION BOMBARDMENT -- In this series of four dramatic photos is the most eloquent testimony to the hammering of enemy objectives by the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses and Consolidated B-24 Liberators of the 8th AAF (England) escorted by fighters in the deep penetrations of enemy territory. These photos taken during an attack on German-held French targets show clearly what happened to an airfield when the high explosives of an 8th AAF Liberator was loosed on it. The visibility was good and most of the returning crew members gave enthusiastic reports of the bombing.
