B-17 Flying Fortresses attack Portes Les Valences

1944-08-06

The heavily loaded Portes Les Valences Railyards in Southern France, were attacked by B-17 Flying Fortresses of the 15th AAF on Aug 6, 1944 and were severely hit. A good concentration of bombs fell on the main yards. All through-lines were cut, a car shop gutted and a roundhouse and turntable were hit. It is estimated that 175 cars were destroyed or severely damaged, during this heavy bomber attack.
