B-17 Flying Fortress over Germany

This highflying silver Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress of the 15th AAF is shown here in this photograph as it wings its way to attack railyards in the heart of Germany's rail system on Aug 3, 1944. Heavy bombers have been successfully smashing at rail and oil targets in Hitler's "Fortress Europe" to help the ground forces in their relentless drive, by denying Hun troops the vital supplies and fuel that he needs to withstand the attacks of Allied ground troops.
