A gaping hole in the right wing, made by enemy anti-aircraft fire, fails to stop this Slugging Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress of the 15th Air Force. Had the shell hit a few inches forward it would have exploded the main wing tank. The incident occurred over the Lechfield Airdrome, near Augsburg, Germany, attacked by the "Forts" on September 12, 1944. ITALY.
