B-17 Flying Fortress in Italy

ITALY -- Fire smothering foam covers the flaming wing of a 15th Air Force Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress as fire fighters of the Air Service Command save the airplane for further action against the enemy. The fire of unknown origin occurred as the airplane was landing. An example of "Lend-lease in reverse" can be seen in the lower left hand corner, where a member of a Royal Air Force fire fighting unit, handles a hose, aiding in extinguishing the flames.
