B-17 Flying Fortress anti-mud cover

S/Sgt. George R. Fierbaugh, Palestine, W. Va., looking grimly satisfied, poses by his finished product -- an anti-mud cover to keep his Boeing B-17 ball turret window clean on takeoff. By grasping the handle through a floor hatch he removes the cover after his Fort is airborne. Hinged to fold in half, the aluminum cover passes neatly through the floor porthole. The gunner's entire Boeing B-17 group now uses his invention, which now is spreading throughout his wing.
