B-17 Fire at Bassingboure
Working quickly and efficiently, with up-to-date equipment, fire-fighters of the 91st Bomb Group at Bassingbourne, England, fight hazardous flames which enveloped a crashed Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress" and threatened other aircraft nearby. With modern equipment, fire-fighters were able to salvage parts of aircraft equipment which would have been written off as total loss if the blaze went uncontrolled. Flames were overcome by Foamite, a chemical spray which quickly chills and smothers the fire and brings it under control.
