Two task forces totaling 109 Boeing B-17 airplanes plus part of another, 18 Consolidated B-24 airplanes, attacked. Being covered by a smoke screen are berths of cruisers Nurnberg (1) & Leipzig (2) the Gneiseau (3), the Lutzow (4), Emden (5) U-boat depot ship (6) five hundred & forty-four 1,000-lb. & 144 five-hundred-pound GP bombs were dropped. 96th Bomb Group.
