Auxiliary tank on Lockheed Lightning
EIGHTH AAF SERVICE COMMAND STATION - One of the new jettisonable auxiliary gasoline tanks is shown prior to being installed on a Lockheed Lightning. This modification, which is being done by Eighth AAF Service Command technicians, is one of the reasons for the increased flying range of the Lightning. This plane is now used as a fighter escort for Forts and can penetrate to inner reaches of Germany. Belly tanks P-38
