At Buna, Papua, New Guinea, the Japanese were using bags made of rice

In exposed position the Japanese use revetments to a considerable extent, but in the main, they are not covered or camouflaged. At Buna, Papua, New Guinea, the Japanese were using bags made of rice straw filled with dirt for this purpose. The humid climate of that region soon produced from this wall of earth a natural green coverage which blended exceptionally well with the surrounding background, although the shadows cast by the revetments disclosed its form.
