As this Flying Fortress of the U.S. Army 8th Air Force dropped its bombs on Berlin, flak ripped through the cockpit, injured the pilot and co-pilot and smashed the entire instrument panel. Despite painful wounds and blinded by blood dripping from face cuts, the two men held the ship in the formation and successfully flew it back to its base.
