American Plane At Captured German Airfield

American plane shown after landing on captured German airfield at Polzen, Germany, near Leipzig. Taken by Combat Command A, 9th Armored Division, 1st U.S. Army, the field was strewn with the wreckage of German planes, including some ME 262 jet planes, which were blown up or burned by retreating Germans. Runways had also been blown up by Germans before they abandoned the field. Field had also been badly damaged by American planes before its capture.
