Allies landing near Terracina
1944-01-22
The beach-road north toward Nettuno, where the Allies landed on Jan 22, was hammered by the heavy bombers of the Strategic Air Forces near the coast city of Terracina. Object was to smash the hill above the road, start a landslide into the sea that would cut another of the vital arteries through which Kesserling might have rushed shock troops to stop the Allied landings.
