Allied bombers over Tripoli harbor

Rommel lost many thousands of tons of vital war material before they reached the front. A great deal was lost in the harbor at Tripoli, Tripolitania, Libya, where, night after night, Allied bombers rained their bombs on the shipping, storehouses, and harbor installations. But the town itself was almost undamaged. In this picture damaged shipping can be seen in the foreground, while, in the background, Tripoli's houses still stand and the churches still point their spires to the sky.
