Allied Anti-Aircraft Guns Over Naples

12th Combat Camera Unit--23 October 1943 GERMAN NIGHT BOMBERS RAID - Naples On the night of October 23rd, German two-engine bombers came over Naples, it is presumed that they were looking for the airfield at Pomigliano, which is only eight miles out of the city. Although the ack-ack in Naples opened up, the guns around the field remained silent, and the enemy was unable to locate the field. Some bombs were dropped in Naples and some casualties were reported. It is believed that four of the German raiders were shot down. The two still pictures taken show the heavy and concentrated pattern of ack-ack thrown up by our anti-aircraft defenses in the Naples area. The shots were made from the airfield at Pomigliano, eight miles from the city proper. The heavy wavy clusters shown at the right are flares dropped by the enemy. STILL PHOTOGRAPHS: 1.
