Aleutian Time The Lead Plane Of The First Flight Of U.S
AIR ATTACK FROM THE ALEUTIANS -- At 11 P.M. Aleutian time the lead plane of the first flight of U.S. Army 11th Air Force Mitchell bombers roars in over Shimushu (northern most Kurile island) to attack a Japanese convoy in Paramushiru Strait. The enemy naval base of Kataoka is just off left foreground. Other shipping was surprised in Kashiwabara-harbor on Paramushiru. Volcanic cone in distance is Araido To, in Sea of Okhotak. Despite heavy anti-aircraft from ships and shore batteries which downed one B-25, Liberators and Mitchells accounted for at least six enemy vessels sunk or damaged in the most successful air strike from Aleutian bases in almost two years.
