The maxim, "Necessity is the mother of invention", was very true in many phases of the war. At the airfield in San Pancrazio, Italy, these airmen, exercising typical Yankee ingenuity, rigged up mess kit washers, each unit having its own heating system. Here, GIs of the 515th Bomb Squadron, 376th Bomb Group use their invention to advantage. 2 February 1944.
