Airfield in Europe

Besides being an operational base, this airfield in Europe was also a supply depot for glider bombs, parts of which were manufactured right on the field in a huge plastics factory. Cpt. David Barnby, a British Paratrooper (left) and 1st Lt. James E. Elliot, 22, of Chicago, Ill., unpack one of the bombs. In this warehouse the bombs are completed except for the jet-propulsion engine. The wings, fuselage, and war-head were packed in separate cases.
