Airdrome at Centocelle bombed

1944-01-20

Carpeted by the bombs of the 15th Air Force, the airdrome at Centocelle, northeast of Rome, got a pounding two days before the Allied landings on 22 Jan. 1944. It was the job of Strategic Air Force to support the ground operation by ploughing up every drome in central Italy that might have been used by the Luftwaffe to oppose the beach-head.
