Air attack on Naples railroads

Prior to the Allied occupation of Naples, that Italian city had been under consistent air attack by planes of the Northwest African Air Forces. Railroads and yards were prime targets, the object being to hamper the retreat by the German units. After the Allies captured Naples, those same railroads had to be repaired and replaced to give the Allies the use of facilities which they had denied the enemy. These photographs tell some of the story of what happened to Naples rail yards. A view of the railway yards, sheds and rolling stocks at Naples, damaged by the precision bombing of Allied planes.
