AAF Flying Fortresses over Vergato Italy
Pin point precision at its best, as AAF Flying Fortresses block a vital supply line in Northern Italy. The mission was to Vergato, 25 miles southwest of Bologna. Supply lines here feed from Bologna south and southwest to Pisa and Florence. Attack was carried out on Nov. 27, by a small force of Boeing B-17's on a "target of opportunity" on rail and road links in Northern Italy. Hit were: the highway intersection northeast of Vergato marshalling yards; railroad tracks, which were cut completely west and north of the marshalling yards; adjacent buildings; highways, and bridge approaches. River here is the winding Reno.
